SCARY BABOON DOUBLES DOWN ON FAN-FAVOURITE PETS WITH MAJOR NEW PET POWERS UPDATE

Scary Baboon is doubling down on pets following the huge response to one of the game’s biggest recent additions.

Today, ENVER launches the Pet Powers Update for its millions-strong Meta Quest hit, dramatically expanding the pet system introduced earlier this year after Lil Babs quickly became a fan favourite among players.

The new update turns pets into a much deeper part of Scary Baboon. Lil Babs can now develop unique combinations of abilities, personality traits and cosmetics, while powerful new Ultimates allow certain pets to transform into spectacular gameplay abilities.

For ENVER, the update is also a demonstration of how Scary Baboon continues to evolve.

Rather than treating major updates as isolated additions, the studio closely watches how its community responds to new mechanics and expands the parts of the game that resonate most strongly with players. Following the popularity of the original Pets Update, the team moved quickly to make Lil Babs a significantly deeper part of the Scary Baboon experience.

“Pets were a big step for Scary Baboon, and the response from our players made it clear they wanted more of them,” said Will Creighton, Game Director at ENVER. “Pet Powers is us listening to that response and going much further with the idea. We want the game to keep evolving around the things our community genuinely loves.”

At the centre of Pet Powers is a new Customization Machine inside the pet shop.

Players can insert their Lil Bab to reveal its individual ability and cosmetic trees, with each pet rolling its own combination of powers and customisation options. The result is a much greater degree of variation between pets, giving individual Lil Babs their own characteristics and capabilities.

Pets can also receive one of several new Traits: Silly, Smart, Friendly or Angry.

Each Trait draws from its own pool of passive behaviours and abilities. Smart pets might warn players when a monster is nearby. Angry pets can develop defensive abilities such as knocking monsters backwards. Silly pets can acquire more unpredictable behaviours, including occasionally creating a temporary stink around themselves.

Pet Powers forms part of ENVER’s broader live-development approach to Scary Baboon, which has seen the studio continually expand the game through major updates, new mechanics and community-driven additions.

The update also adds several new secret spaces to discover throughout the world, including a functioning trash compactor, a vast dark chamber containing an apparently bottomless pit, hidden laboratory areas and a mysterious vault beneath the map.

Other areas hint at parts of Scary Baboon’s world still to come, including enormous sealed doors and a dark tunnel containing something waiting at its far end.
