Scary Baboon is getting into the Halloween spirit with Spooky Baboon, a new seasonal update bringing fresh scares, a returning Halloween makeover, a new monster, a limited-time scavenger hunt, new items, cosmetics, pets and more.
And this Halloween, you might want to think twice before trusting the baboon standing next to you.
The Lab has a new resident.
At first glance, the Mimic looks like any other baboon. Get close enough, though, and it reveals what it really is.
The new monster listens to players around it and repeats things it has heard them say, using their own voices to lure unsuspecting players closer before attacking. Whether its ambush succeeds or fails, the Mimic will then flee from nearby players, disappearing back into The Lab.
Combined with Scary Baboon's proximity voice chat and social gameplay, it introduces a particularly uncomfortable question: Was that actually your friend talking?
Halloween also brings a new cooperative Trick or Treat event.
Players have eight minutes to search the map for 50 pieces of candy, including sweets hidden in some of Scary Baboon's darker and more dangerous areas. Everyone in the lobby contributes to the same objective, so finding all 50 means working together while avoiding the monsters hunting you.
Complete the hunt in time, and everyone receives a notification allowing them to collect a Halloween Egg from the event terminal.
Long-time players might recognise a few things when they return to The Lab.
Scary Baboon's Halloween Lab theme is back, alongside seasonal versions of some familiar faces and locations. BlackGooGoo and Meatman are both getting into the Halloween spirit, including a Pumpkin Meatman skin and a newly decorated Meatman arena.
Baboo is also returning to The Lab for the update.
The in-game shop is being redesigned for Halloween too, swapping out its current selection for a new collection of seasonal gold cosmetics. Halloween Eggs will also be available to purchase throughout the event.
Spooky Baboon introduces the game's first limited Tech Tree, with a collection of Halloween items available only during the update.
Some are built for fighting monsters. The Pumpkin Launcher fires seven explosive pumpkins, while the Pumpkin Bomb deals a hefty 350 damage. The Pumpkin Sword, Ghost Dagger and Slapping Bat offer some considerably more seasonal ways to get up close.
Others are made for causing trouble with friends.
Drink a Mimic Soda and you'll copy the name and cosmetics of the nearest player for one minute. Ghost Soda gives you floatier movement and makes you temporarily invisible to monsters. The Web Launcher can pull you across the environment or web up a monster, while the Scary Sound Panel gives you four different sounds specifically designed for pranking other players.
There's even a Spooky Board inspired by a classic Ouija board. Speak near it and its marker will choose between yes and no. Occasionally, something else might answer.
Other limited items include Bat Wings, a Spider Slingshot, Candy Corn Pistol, Bat Flashlight, Web Wall, Spooky Boombox and a set of new Halloween sprays.
Pets are getting something new too.
Spirit Surge is a new Ultimate that transforms your pet into a spectral rocket-gauntlet. Hold the trigger and it pulls you in the direction of your arm, letting you fly through the environment while leaving a ghostly trail behind you.
During the transformation, your character takes on a spectral appearance, and connecting with an enemy using your fist deals damage on impact.
The Mythic version turns things up another notch with pink and white visual effects.
There's plenty more arriving alongside the main update, including around 15 new Tech Web items, approximately 12 new gold cosmetics and new pets with Ultimates.
A limited-time Death Costume Bundle will also be available for $29.99, including a Scythe melee weapon and 1,000 Gold.
And with Halloween taking over Scary Baboon's world, players may also spot some familiar Scary Baboon merchandise appearing inside the game.
Grab some friends, head back into The Lab and remember: if someone starts repeating what you just said, maybe don't walk towards them.
